新藤杏子は2022年、SOMPO美術館「FACE展」にてグランプリを受賞。

同美術館「絵画のゆくえ2025」展においても、圧倒的な画力と、のびやかな世界観で観客を魅了しました。

今展では、四季折々の森の風景や、森の中を進んでいく子どもたちの姿が描かれています。絵日記のようにいきいきと描かれた作品を前にすると、自分の子どもの頃を思い出し、思わず微笑みがこぼれます。

展覧会タイトルは「Pave the way, Gently choose」。
人生の岐路をどのように進んでいくのか。日々の一つひとつの選択が未来を形づくっていく——
等身大のテーマは私たちの心にやさしく響き、毎日をどのように選び取っていくのか、その大切さに気づかせてくれます。

100号３枚の連作を含め、31点が展示されます。

12月13日（土）の午後5時から7時には、作家を囲んでのささやかなレセプションが開催されます。

In 2022, the artist received the Grand Prize at the “FACE Exhibition” held at the SOMPO Museum of Art.
She continued to captivate audiences with her exceptional technical skill and expansive, lyrical worldview in the museum’s “Where Painting Goes 2025” exhibition as well.

In the current exhibition, scenes of forests in the changing seasons and children making their way through the woods are depicted with a vividness reminiscent of a picture diary. These works evoke memories of our own childhood, bringing a gentle smile to our faces.

The exhibition is titled “Pave the way, Gently choose.”
How do we navigate the crossroads of life? Each of our daily choices shapes the future ahead of us.
This sincere and relatable theme resonates deeply, reminding us of the quiet significance of the decisions we make each day.

A small reception with the artist will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
We warmly invite you to visit the Contemporary Gallery on the 6th floor of the Main Building at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi.

Pave the way, Gently choose

このタイトルと全体の展示の流れが見えてきたのは、100 号の作品で森の中を進む子どもを描いたときのことでした。

私自身、昨年から今年にかけて、人生の分岐点に何度も立たされる年でした。

今もなお、あのときの選択が本当に正しかったのか、自問し続けています。違う道を選んでいたら、今とはまったく異なる未来があったのではないか―そんな思考の渦に囚われながらも、私は制作を続けてきました。

やがて気づいたのは、私たちは「選んだつもりがない」と思っているときでさえ、すでに何かを選んでいるということ。

日常とは無数の分岐でできていて、選択の積み重ねが今をかたちづくっているのだと感じました。

森の中を登っていく子どもを描こうと思ったとき、この展示の物語の行き先が見えました。

この作品は三部構成になっています。整えられた道を登る者、それを慎重に追う者、遠くの道なき場所からこちらを見つめる者、そして木陰で静かに休む者。それぞれが異なる選択をしながら森の中を進んでいる。

私たちは、一度選んだ道の先にしか進めません。もしその選択の先が「優しい牢獄」であったとしても、あるいは「過酷な幸福」であったとしても、その先のそれぞれの続いていく物語を優しく受け入れられるような展示にできたらと考えています

Pave the way, Gently choose

The title of this exhibition—and the overall direction of its narrative—came into view when I created the 100-size painting depicting children making their way through the forest.

From last year into this year, I found myself standing at numerous crossroads in my own life.
Even now, I continue to question whether the choices I made at those moments were truly the right ones. I often wonder if choosing a different path might have led to a future entirely unlike the one I’m living today. Caught in that whirlpool of thoughts, I nevertheless kept creating.

In time, I realized something: even in those moments when we feel we are not choosing, we are, in fact, already choosing something.
Our everyday lives are made of countless branches, and the accumulation of choices—large and small—forms the shape of our present.

When I decided to paint a child climbing upward through the forest, the destination of this exhibition’s story finally came into focus.

This work is composed of three parts:
the one who climbs the structured path,
the one who follows it cautiously,
the one who gazes toward us from a distant place without a path,
and the one who rests quietly in the shade.
Each is moving through the forest while making different choices.

We can move only toward what lies ahead on the path we have chosen.
Even if that choice leads to a “gentle prison,” or to a “harsh form of happiness,”
I hope this exhibition allows us to gently accept the stories that continue beyond each of those paths.
